Coming to a yoga studio for the first time can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never done yoga before. So here’s a few things to know that may make your first day in the studio even more enjoyable. As always, if you have questions or are unsure what classes might be right for you, please don’t hesitate to call us.
CoVId19: We follow the CDC guidelines for business operations which includes intensified cleaning processes, temperature checks, teacher hand washing requirements, wearing masks while students arrive, move around and leave the studio, and cleaning all high touch areas between classes.
First and foremost, listen to your body! Yoga is a great way to release tension and stress, whether you are moving through a quick paced flow class or releasing everything and relaxing in a restorative class. Every body is different, so RESPECT where your body is and never push to a point of pain. Anytime you feel discomfort, back off, find a comfortable modification or take a break in child’s pose.
Practice on an empty stomach. We recommend waiting at least 2 hours between your last meal and practicing. However, we understand you are likely to get hungry between that meal and class. If this occurs, we advise a light snack, such as fruit or nuts, up to 30 minutes prior to class. Always drink plenty of water before, during and after a class.
Please be conscious of noise. The practice room is a place for a peaceful atmosphere. Please be considerate of those who are centering on their mats when setting up your mat and tools, being mindful of how loud the snap of an unrolling mat can be!
Please leave your cell phone in your car or in the back room, making sure to turn it off or place it on silent mode as to not disrupt class.*
*if you must have your phone with you for any reason, please let the teacher know you will have it with you, turn it to silent and set your mat up in a space you can quietly and easily excuse yourself to take the call (back room or outside the studio down the side walk.) ☺
Please sign up for classes online at MindBody. We have limited space and this is the only way to guarantee your spot! If you find that you will not be able to make the class please cancel through MindBody or call the studio at 678-961-5937 to speak with someone to let us know or leave a voicemail, and we will remove you from the class. We do not like to have to charge you for a class you did not attend, so please cancel beforehand so we can give the spot to another student.
Upon arrival, please check in with front desk. Always let the teacher know of any injuries or limitations you may have, so that we may provide you with appropriate modifications in poses.
Please leave shoes at the front of the studio under the benches. We ask that you remove your shoes to keep our practice space as clean as possible, we spend quite a bit of time on the floor in yoga and would like to not battle with dirt during Savasana ;)
Arrive early. Please aim to arrive 10-15 minutes early to set up your mat and to begin to center yourself before class starts. We know McDonough traffic can be a challenge, so let us know if you are running late and we can reserve a space for you in the back of the room.
*if running late, please enter and set up quietly (Door locks 10 minutes after class begins)
Please be courteous of classes still in session. Some of the classes on our schedule run back to back, if you are early and waiting outside for the door to unlock, please be mindful to keep voices down as they will carry into the practice space.
Appropriate attire. The best clothing for yoga is comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement. We do practice barefoot, but you may find having socks for centering at the beginning of class and Savasana at the end make you more comfortable.
Please be flexible in your mat placement and respect other people’s mats. Sometimes we have to get a little closer to our neighbors in order to make room for everyone. We ask for your cooperation when needing to readjust your position in the room. Please be considerate and not step on another student’s mat.
We are fully equipped with mats and props, however, please feel free to bring your own if you want to. *The longer you practice you may find it beneficial to invest in your own mat and props, especially to continue your practice at home.
Please clean and put away mat and props at the end of class.
Feel free to clean your personal mat as well.
Stay for Savasana (corpse pose/final resting pose). Savasana is a crucial part of the practice and a pose all its own, so please try not leave before your entire practice is completed.
*If you must leave class early, please notify the instructor beforehand and set up at the back of the room, so you can quietly leave before Savasana has begun; if you know you will be leaving early, please be mindful to try to take a small Savasana on your own before leaving as this pose integrates all the benefits of your practice.
Children ages 14-18 allowed with parental signature and accompaniment. Our classes are designed for adults, so please make sure your child is ready and able to stay quiet and respectful in the yoga class. This helps to ensure all practitioners experience a calm and peaceful practice. Children 16-18 may attend classes by themselves with parental consent as long as their presence does not disrupt the class environment.
And finally, enjoy yourself and the practice. This is your time to focus solely on yourself, your body and your mind and what you need. Keep your attention focused on your mat and making the pose fit to your body, not the other way around! ;)
“You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga you just have to be willing to shake the dust off and see what happens.”
