What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda literally means the science or knowledge of life. Ayurveda, often referred to as the sister science to yoga, has a 5,000 year old tradition as the holistic clinical naturopathic healing system of India. Both yoga and Ayurveda come from the same philosophy and offer tools to help you bring your body and mind into a balanced state of health.

 

Ayurveda primarily focuses on lifestyle practices that support health, balance and self-transformation. Using simple implementations of Ayurvedic nutrition, diet and routine you can create profound changes in your life.

An initial consultation with Lara Worsham, a certified Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor, involves an in depth conversation designed to identify your natural constitution (prakriti) and determine where your current state of imbalance (vikriti) is in relation to that constitution (dosha). This usually takes 1 to 1½ hrs. After this initial meeting, we schedule a follow-up session where we review the findings of the session and discuss realistic recommendations for lifestyle, diet, asana, pranayama and meditation practices designed for your unique constitution (dosha). This session is usually 30-45 minutes. As needed, follow-up sessions can be scheduled to help you as your needs change with the seasons, stages of life and other circumstances.
